Elsie McColl
Elsie McColl, beloved wife to the late Glen McColl and loving mother to Roy, Vance, and Glen Allan McColl, passed away at Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn, Manitoba Monday, December 29, 2025, surrounded by family. Elsie was 95 years old.
Elsie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Roy (Rhonda), Vance (Brenda Lee), and Glen (Shelly); grandchildren Charlotte (Conrad), Travis (Jacqueline), Brodie (Stacey), Ceanna (Bryce), Taylor (Aisling), Logan, Braden (Cass), and Mac (Emma); along with 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley (Jim) McColl; and many nephews, nieces and extended family members.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents Henry and Anna Kliever; her mother- and father-in-law Constance and Alfred McColl; her husband Glen; her brothers George, Frank (Annie), Jake (Mary), Dave (Esther); her sister Anne (Cecile Perlette and Jake Dueck); and Glen's siblings: Roy, Bert, Ron (Rosemary), Jack (Bev), Margaret (Bill) Bartley, and Jim.
Elsie was born August 20, 1930 on the family farm, the youngest of 6 children and the only member of the family born in Canada.
Elsie enjoyed farm living and spent the majority of her life in and around the community of Elkhorn. She enjoyed school and had thoughts of becoming a teacher, but for various reasons chose to go to work in Elkhorn instead.
On December 20, 1952, Elsie married the love of her life, Glen Douglas McColl, and they spent just over 53 years in holy matrimony. Much of their time together was spent on their farm 5-miles east of Elkhorn (Tower View Farm), working tirelessly to make ends meet while raising three sons and contributing and volunteering to the communities in which they lived (Elkhorn and Hargrave).
Once her husband Glen passed in March 2006, however, the love of the farm was never the same, and in 2007, the farm was sold. Elsie moved to Elkhorn and lived independently in her own home and in Elkview Lodge.
Then, in 2018, Elsie's health took a turn for the worst when a fall caused fractures in several vertebrae. Under her doctors' advice, Elsie applied for and received admission into Elkwood Manor.
On numerous occasions Elsie commented on how wonderful everyone was at the Manor and how well she was treated.
Over the years, Elsie made many decisions that made things much easier for her sons. For example, she decided when she no longer wanted to drive; she spent one year on the farm by herself and then made the decision that it was time to sell; she knew when it was time to move into Elkview Lodge; and she decided when it was time for her to apply for admission into Elkwood Manor.
Elsie McColl was a wonderful human being who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. And the legacy that she leaves behind for all of us to aspire to is that of love.
A legacy of love.
A private graveside service will be held at Elkhorn Cemetery at a later date.
For those who so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of their choice in memory of Elsie.
